There are a number of Christ-based Counseling credentials.  What do you recommend?

Beyond basic certification, we recommend the Advanced Mastery Licensing Program (AMLP). As an example, if your focus is marriage then there are times when some type of addiction has a major effect on the relationship. Also, there are times when either or both spouses are suffering some type of discouragement. So, marriage counselors must also offer the other forms of counseling to be complete. Additionally, many counselors are in congregations where they minister to a number of persons in both family and individual circumstances.

What does the AMLP include?   (Fees below do not include the scholarship)

Basic Certification including -- Laws and Policy governing Christ-based Counselors, Psycho-therapies vs. Christ-based Counseling. and the Counseling Plan. $135.00
CBC Marriage Counseling -- Christian Marriage, Divorce, Techniques for Marriage, and Marital Crisis. $100.00
CBC Liberation and Deliverance Therapy Therapy for Addictions -- There's a pre-evaluation, L&D principles, and post-evaluation $100.00
CBC Joy Therapy for depression -- Techniques for believers to employ to assist them through difficult circumstances. $100.00
CBC Counseling Plan -- Provides structure for each session including time allotments, lawful requirements, CBC concept to assign counselee, flexibility for personal insights, and similar helps.

The tuition cost is $435.00 separately. However, counselors who opt to enter the complete AMLP program, the total tuition is $190. If a ministry couple or spouses desire to complete the program, the total cost is: $350.00

CBC, ADVANCED MASTERY LICENSING PROGRAM (AMLP), $190
AMLP - 2 applicants 350.00
AMLP - 3 applicants $400.00
AMLP - 4 or more ($100.00 ea.)

All Christ-based Counselors must also complete the first trimester of the National Faith-life program. This ensures that all Christ-based Counselors have a standardized perspective of the faith-life skills and disciplines. Counselors can begin this program after they have finished their counseling disciplines (This requirement cannot be waived or substituted).

What Books Will I Need?  What's the Cost?

Ask about our book scholarship. We'll purchase the books for you.  Christ-based Counselors must purchase the Christ-based Counselor's Handbook ($20.00 plus shipping), and The Believer from Milk to Maturity ($24.00 plus shipping, 1 set for a family is acceptable). Volume discounts are available in any of the A3CEES book stores such as christbasedcounseling.org/bookstore.htm

Are There Any Additional Requirements Once I'm Finished with The Other Requirements?

As with other professions and ministries, Christ-based Counselors have a standard of ministry-excellence. We are constantly preparing and improving. There is an annual CEU requirement. This is not required until the year following the completion of the Faith-life program. Certification or licensing is renewed when the annual CEU is completed. A course is typically $35.00. You select any course from the listing of Christ-based Counseling courses on-line.

What is the differences between state Licensing, Christian Certification and Licensing, and Christ-based Certification or Licensing?

You must be clear about the differences between these. First, whenever you see the designation "state licensed or licensed counselor" this designation does not and cannot reflect a "faith" related approach to counseling.

The separation of Church and state prevents any state from consideration of faith related principles or approaches.
Persons desiring state licensing typically require a degree from a college or university in a social or behavioral science and other requirements. None of the requirements are related, or ensure that counselors use a faith-related approach.

Obviously, the behavioral sciences have value, but the value is limited concerning believers.  And the historical fact is the prominent persons who established the psycho-social practices were atheist. This has an extraordinary effect on the concepts.

Christian certification may or may not be Christ-based. The approaches can be secular as with state licensing, but provided by a Christian organization, or Christian. Some prayer and scripture may be involved, but the approach is in-fact, a secular approach sprinkled with prayer and some scripture text.

Christ-based Certification includes approaches and concepts that are clearly Christ-based (please see the Standards on the main-page). NACCBC is the nation's exclusive Christ-based Certification and Licensing organization. Nationally, state law is relatively consistent. Persons who are not state licensed cannot counsel unless they are using an approach specifically related to their faith. This is why persons in ministry are allowed to provide counseling.

However, this can be a potential disaster legally and otherwise if the believer is not appropriately prepared. Thus, the significance of NACCBC and similar organizations is clear. NACCBC provides Christ-based Counseling (CBC) with a counseling model, counseling plan, standards, laws and policies, and specific approaches that can be evaluated by any legal, state, or regulatory authority. They would discover that Christ-based Counseling is substantively related to faith-life principles in the life of Jesus Christ. Moreover, what believers have in Jesus Christ and His faith-life principles are far superior to what's available in the psychotherapies.

How is the Certification or Licensing Issued?

Generally, all credentials are issued simultaneously. Once the the core requirements are completed, the counselor will receive the Advanced Mastery License. Since some counselors simply want the basic certification, but continue to use their own approach, NACCBC provides a listing of all Christ-based Counselors for employers, ministries, or individuals; but NACCBC can only strongly recommend AMLPs. NACCBC can affirm precisely what AMLPs do when counseling.  We accept that some counselors merely want the association value with NACCBC.

What if I also desire to be a Faith-life Coach or Counselor, how does this work with my Christ based Counseling Credentials?

If a Christ-based Counselor desires the Faith-life Counselor/Coach credential the counselor will need to complete all three trimesters  of the National Faith-life Program. Christ-based Counselors pay a discounted fee of $100.00. Counselors can visit the on-line campus at M2Maturity.org.

Can I use my completed courses in the Christ-based Counseling program to apply toward a CollegePlex degree program?

Yes.  Christ-based Counselors can transfer course hours to complete A3CEES degree programs such as a Bachelors or Masters in Christ-based Counseling or other degree programs (subject to CollegePlex rules and regulations). You should visit the on-line campus. The on-line campus can be visited at CollegePlex.org.

How long will it take to complete each credential requirement?

It is difficult to ascertain how long it should take for each person to complete the AMLP.  However, we do attempt to provide some idea of how long a person can "reasonably" expect to complete each course.

Basic Certification (6 to 10 hours)
Marriage (8 to 12 hours)
L&D Therapy (8 to 12 hours)
Joy Therapy (4 to 6 hours)
Faith-life Program (10-14 hours)

Again, the hours depend on each person's individual skill-set. Nevertheless, if a person can read, write, and type the person should not have any problem completing the program. The whole program is opened-book learning. If you attend an on-line Web-Class with an instructor the hours are discussed below:

How long does it take if I prefer to take the requirements in on-line classes with an instructor.

We attempt to bundle AMLP requirements including Basic Certification, Marriage, L&D Therapy for Addiction and Joy Therapy for Depression in a Friday-evening, Saturday, and Sunday evening weekend, OR a Friday-evening, Saturday, and Monday evening. See the NACCBC Course and Events schedule for when these are offered. (Participants must add $35.00 for instructor fees to any program taught by an instructor; or add $50.00 for ministry couples.  The instructor fee is added to the program fees).

Are there refunds?

There are no refunds, but we can provide a donation receipt for persons who do not complete their program; or who are not satisfied.
